Who I am: I'm Teri Boggess, a sports copy editor at The News & Observer, where I have worked since August 1994. Previously I worked full-time at The Chattanooga (Tenn.) Times and The Roanoke (VA.) Times. I attended the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.

Hobbies and interests: My job takes up much of my life. When I'm not at the office, I enjoy doting on my nephew, born in October 2006, and on our rescued dogs, a black shepherd mix named Hooch and still-very-feral border collie/spaniel mix named Indie; and our rescued cats, Mr. Wild Thing, Baby Bo and Punkin. We were saddened on Dec. 26, 2009, by the loss of our ancient lovebird Chirpface, who was my Christmas gift in 1990 and who was an amazing story because she survived being seriously burned when our house caught fire after Hurricane Fran in 1997. My husband and I also rehabilitate feral dogs for adoption (a darling beagle mix named Puppy-Puppy -later Peaches - and a great border collie-terrier mix Sofi found super homes, as did spoiled apartment beagle Brisko). We also rehab cats and kittens (we bottle-raised a kitten from birth after her mother abandoned three in a wet, cold parking lot - we got quite an education). And we'll take on whatever else lands in our home (the most recent was a box turtle who was hit by a car and repaired by N.C. State's great Turtle Rescue Team. "Squash", as she is called, was released in May 2009 after the nuts, bolts and wire wire were removed and her fractured shell deemed healed; we have learned that turtles like peaches). We do all of this through AARF, a no-kill rehab sanctuary near Benson http://aarfrehab.petfinder.com.

Pet peeves: ill-informed people who think all Triangle journalists went to UNC; irresponsible people who don't spay or neuter their pets despite the wide availability of low-cost programs and new payment options at their own veterinarians
