When one of Rhoda's schoolmates drowns mysteriously at a picnic, Mrs. Penmark is alarmed. For the boy who drowned was the one who had won the penmanship medal that Rhoda felt she deserved. Is evil learned or are we born that way? The scene is a small Southern town where Colonel and Christine Penmark live with their daughter, Rhoda. On the surface Rhoda is a sweet, charming eight-year-old, full of old‑fashioned graces, loved by her parents, admired by all her elders. But Rhoda's mother has an uneasy feeling about her. When one of Rhoda's schoolmates drowns mysteriously at a picnic, Mrs. Penmark is alarmed. For the boy who drowned was the one who had won the penmanship medal that Rhoda felt she deserved. When a series of strange and tragic events occur, suspicion and treachery point in some strangely unlikely directions, challenging the ties that bind a family together (or tear them apart). When a shocking discovery fuels her suspicions Mrs Penmark must make decide what to do with her only daughter.

This all lesbian comedy revue is taking the country by storm. From Santa Cruz to Virginia to Fort Worth and now Raleigh Durham, this comedy show is getting mad applause. Poppy Champlin, a veteran comedian, currently on HBO's Documentary “All Aboard Rosie's Family Vacation”, who the Chicago Sun Times called Blisteringly Funny during the closing ceremonies of the Gay Games, hosts and produces this all Queer Comedy show. On November 3rd, Poppy will bring three other queens from her queenly court to the Carolina Theatre in Durham, Vickie Shaw, Jennie McNulty and Michele Balan. Vickie Shaw is originally from Texas and in her twangy southern drawl, she lets you know what’s what and what isn’t. A favorite on Olivia cruises, seen on LOGO’s “Wisecracks” and now starring in the new hit comedy documentary “Laughing Matters... More!”, Vickie is a favorite on the circuit. Another Queen weighing in is Jennie McNulty, just back from her USO tour in Iraq, and still playing professional women's tackle football, Jennie’s playful comedic style has earned her rave reviews. In addition to touring all over the country, Jennie performs stand up regularly at Harrah's Improv in Las Vegas and was recently seen on NBC’s hit show “Starting Over.” The fourth reigning queen in this royal court is Michele Balan, a native New Yorker and top finalist on Last Comic Standing 2006. Michele has been compared to George Burns because of her quick and pointed one liners and they are non stop, hitting their mark every time. Whatever your sexuality, nationality, religious or political persuasion, the Queer Queens of Qomedy are sure to bring you to your feet with laughter. All hail the Queens!

NEW PRESIDENT OF AT&T NORTH CAROLINA
TO KEYNOTE LIGHTNER YOUTH LEADERSHIP BANQUET
RALEIGH -- Area civic, business and educational leaders on November 15, 2007 will celebrate the 34th anniversary of the election of Clarence E. Lightner. In the 217 years that Raleigh has been in existence Clarence Lightner is the only African American in history to have served as the Capital City's Mayor. The Lightner banquet is expected to attract 500 Triangle citizens to the North Raleigh Hilton Hotel. The banquet will serve as a benefit fundraiser to continue programs of the youth leadership academy that was established in honor of the late mayor. The youth training initiative started in June 2003. The mission statement of the program is to encourage and promote the responsibility for civic duty awareness and participation by youth residing in Wake County through the teaching and implementation of leadership development strategies, philanthropic and community service projects.
