Raleigh tennis team takes second place in USTA League 5.0 women's nationals

A women’s team from Raleigh, representing the USTA Southern Section, on Sept. 28 finished second at the USTA League presented by Chrysler 5.0 Adult National Championships held at the Indian Wells Tennis Garden in Indian Wells, Calif.

The Raleigh team lost to the USTA Northern California Section’s Gold River Racquet Club from Sacramento, Calif., 2-1 in the championship match, the U.S. Tennis Association said in a news release.

RALEIGH’S PLAYERS: The team was composed of captain Cathy Lovett and players Liz Simon, Myrna Bawono, Fiona Degnan, Megan Dunigan, Jacki Fralick, and Lynn Thomas.

Triangle players win mixed doubles titles, and tennis fans have a lot of other action to watch or to join

Tennis is one of those sports in the Triangle that we all know people are playing but we don’t hear much about. Then all of the sudden a lot of people are raising a racket and tennis demands the spotlight.

That’s what’s happening these days. Busy local organization are hosting benefit tournaments, everyday players can join a local ladder to compete against similar players and some Triangle players won titles in a big tournament in Durham. Check out the news below.
