The Triangle is known for basketball and soccer, but the area also produces outstanding volleyball talent. Some of the Triangle’s top girls players as well as top players from the Eastern Seaboard will show their skills in Raleigh this winter when the Morrisville-based Triangle Volleyball Club hosts the Mid-Atlantic Power League.
The multi-court tournament, featuring 45 elite-level Junior Olympic volleyball teams for ages 14-18, will take place March 14-15 at the new Raleigh Convention Center. Competition will take place on eight to 10 courts in the center’s huge Exhibit Hall B.
COMPETITORS: Teams from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, South Carolina and North Carolina are expected to draw more than 1,500 student-athletes, coaches, parents, spectators and college recruiters to downtown Raleigh, the Triangle Volleyball Club said in a news release.
SCHEDULE: Play will start at 8 a.m. March 14 and continue to approximately 8 p.m.. On March 15, play will start at 8 a.m., and the last match is schedule for approximately 4 p.m.
FUTURE: “Hosting a major tournament event has always been a dream of ours,” Triangle Volleyball Club executive director Casey Caram said in the news release. “The MAPL will be our first such endeavor. Our hope is to fill the entire Raleigh Convention Center [and] someday soon finally bringing a major volleyball tournament home to North Carolina.”
