Last night The News & Observer did something that some would never imagine: We held a Tweetup.
Isaac Hunter's Oak City Tavern was gracious enough to host, and we're very grateful to them. We're also thankful to over 100 of you who came out. We hope you enjoyed our event. I know some, like Jess Commins (@renewabelle) and Karlie Justus (@KarlieJ) did because they won hockey tickets!
We wanted our event to be informal and casual, and we think we accomplished that. The format was a little different from other tweetups. We had a few of our awesome writers/bloggers at stations throughout the venue. Brooke Cain (@WarmTV), Matthew Fortner (@techjunkieblog), Eric Frederick (@newsobserver), Sue Stock (@sue_stock) and Andrea Weigl (@andreaweigl) all talked with attendees about their roles in social media and gave away prizes. TriOut, a local location-based iPhone app, helped us out with a check-in contest that went really well.
It was important for us to take this step in reaching out to the community because that's our main job. We've traditionally reached people through our print products, but people consume news in many different ways now, and we want you to know that we understand that. We want to give you the news you want, the way you want it, and we want to hear your ideas. It's simple, really. Below is some of what you guys said:

Again we thank all of you who were able to attend, and we missed those who couldn't. Make sure you check out the photos! Pretty sweet!
Thank you,
Eric Frederick (@newsobserver) and Mike Williams (@triangledotcom)
