Today was election day in Selma. We went to the polling place and cast our vote for one mayoral candidate and two town council candidates. After I cast my vote, I was given an “I Voted” sticker that I proudly placed on my chest.

A Splash of Autumn

I shot this splash of autumn colours while hiking the trails at Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area near Hillsborough.

Unfortunately this year the weather had a negative impact upon the leaves, producing barren branches as the leaves turned but there were a few good opportunities for autumn photography in what I like to call micro scenes - not whole landscape scenes but small portions as in this case was filled with a slash of autumn colours.

I hope you enjoy this shot of a yellow pepper. I took this one after the shot of the apple I posted earlier in the week. I used the same set-up, but when I saw what the light was doing with the pepper, I adapted, which is why it looks different.

Priceless Expressions

Back in 2006 while attending the Haw River festival at Bynum, NC, not more that 10 seconds after parking I noticed a group of folks gathered at the roadside looking at something from a distance which turned out to be a corn snake. When we got there to see what was the commotion I simply picked up the corn snake (it was about 4 feet long), and while holding it in one hand I snapped a photo of it with the other. My boys just happened to be in the immediate background of this photo and also the fact that this was the first snake they had ever seen up close, one can see the looks upon their faces - absolutely priceless!!!
