Apparel Industry grows in the Vietnam

The apparel and textile industry in Vietnam has overtaken crude oil as that country's No. 1 export.

During the first 10 months of this year, Vietnam shipped $7.5 billion in apparel and textiles to primarily the United States and Europe, according to the Vietnamese General Statistics Office.

Vietnam's apparel manufacturing sector has grown rapidly ever since the U.S. government early this year stopped monitoring Vietnamese apparel coming into the United States. The Bush administration feared that Vietnam would dump apparel goods on the U.S. market and started closely watching import prices in 2007 to determine whether anti-dumping duties should be imposed.

Turkish TV Drama Creates Drama for Israel

A Turkish TV drama is set in Gaza and depicts some IDF soldiers doing some of the horrible things Israel is accused of doing- shooting innocents, etc.

Israel calls it incitement and hints that the government should crack down.

Would that be a democratic thing to do??

Israel also says the series has no basis in reality; Turkey isn't claiming it is a documentary- so what is the problem?

monitor too bright because I'm taller than my wife

Over the past few years that I've been posting pictures, many have been too dark. They have looked fine while I was editing them, but once I see them online on other computers, they look dark. More than once I've deleted pictures from this site so that I could brighten them up and repost them.
Although I knew I had a problem, it was intermittent and I could not get a handle on it. I posted a question to this forum, and people suggested I check the setting on my monitor. If it was set bright, I would tend to edit my pictures darker. I re-set my monitor, but the problem kept coming back, every now and then, for no aparent reason.

Rush Limbaugh and the NFL

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh has been dropped from a group seeking to buy the St. Louis Rams.

Limbaugh was to be a limited partner in a bid led by St. Louis Blues chairman Dave Checketts, but Checketts said in a statement Wednesday that Limbaugh's participation had complicated the effort. The group will move forward without him.

Many believe that the cause of the uproar is because of some of Limbaugh's past comments about the NFL and it's players. Others believe it is his politics that people don't like. Either way, he's out of the bidding.

Is it fair what has happened to Limbaugh? Should he be able to pursue ownership of an NFL (or any professional) team?

For the moment, I'd like to talk about taking planned photographs, not spontaneous ones. Spontaneous shots are great, but I don't think what I'm about to talk about would apply well to those shots.

I'd like to talk about pictures where you choose a subject haead of time and think through the composition of the shot. I'm probably not talking about the kind of shot where you are walking down the street, say "whoa cool!" and snap, as great as those shots often are. For planned shots, there's an important consideration I bet many have not considered, even though I'd say it's really the second thing you should think about for this kind of shot.

Will Wake County schools become segregated?

This brings up a few questions:

1) Who's responsibility is it to make the schools diverse?

2) Do the schools need to be diverse for children to be successful?

3) What will a "resegregation" of schools mean for the area as a whole?

Do you feel the impact of war?

I hear people and journalists say from time to time that they don't really feel the impact of war in general life or society- apart from headlines, being a war correspondent or having family in the military. People don't really talk about it unless it is a policy discussion, usually left to "experts" on news programs.

Is it lack of images, numbers based reporting, lack of draft, apathy, the way Iraq and Afghanistan were bungled at the beginning?

During WWII and Vietnam, it is said that everyone felt the impact. This may be because of the draft, maybe not.

The US and Israel say it's one-sided due to the fact that more pages and allegations are devoted to Israel's crimes.

The author of the report, Goldstone, as well as others contend that the accusations against Hamas are straightforward an uncontested (generally); but Israel's are more varied, more contested, and there were official justifications for law breaking that had to be checked.
