Places of interest for the Farmers Almanac

Java55

Just a thought here. I suspect others may know of places similar to this but I do find the coincidences quite interesting. Upon the north flank of Occoneechee Mountain where at one time a mill village had once been there is this stone-lined cistern. Over the years I have noticed during the winter months if the cistern is dry, the following summer is wet and if the cistern is filled with water during the winter months the following summer is dry. So far this coincidence at least for the last 6 years that I've been noticing it has been like clockwork and has yet to fail. I'm beginning to think this place could possibly become at least a local ritual similar to how the more commonly known ground hog day is on the larger scale. Anyway here are the last two years of photos taken during January at the old stone-lined cistern located upon the north flank of Occoneechee Mountain.

Cistern (Jan 21, 2006)

The above photo was made on January 21, 2006 when the cistern had been dry all winter. The following summer was wetter than usual.

Cistern (Jan 7, 2007)

Here is a photo made on January 7, 2007 when the cistern had been filled with water all winter. The following summer has been drier than usual.

I could go back a few more years and post photos from earlier years but I guess you all have got the picture. Does anyone else know of similar places, circumstances, or coincidences like this which can also be photographed as well?

By the way, that old kettle has been in those woods for ages and each year I will use it repeatedly to add a bit of color to an otherwise drab winter landscape.
