As the 2007-08 school year begins, Ravenscroft is pleased to announce the following new members to its board of trustees.

Mr. Victor E. Bell, III is the chairman and president of Marjan, Ltd., a real estate and investment company based in Raleigh. Bell joined Marjan, Ltd. in 1975, and assumed his current role in 1986. Bell also serves as a Director of First Citizens Bancshares, Inc., and is involved with YMCA of the Triangle Area, the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center (Board of Visitors), the Caring House (Advisory Board), and Habitat for Humanity. Bell is a 1974 graduate of Ravenscroft.

Dr. Isaac B. Horton, III is the founder, chairman and majority shareholder of Remote Light, Inc., an intellectual property holding company with a focus on the use of light for illumination; the use of light to disinfect air, water and other liquids; and the use of light for purification of air and water. He has more than 25 years of experience in technology, patents, international business and finance. His companies have issued more than 130 patents. He has extensive governance experience, including advisory board duties at UNC – Chapel Hill.

Mr. John B. Replogle is CEO of Burt’s Bees, the nation’s leading natural personal care business. He is responsible for all facets of operations including strategic planning, financial management, supply chain operations, brand positioning and marketing, and sales development. Replogle joined Burt’s Bees in 2006 after serving as General Manager of Unilever’s Skin Care Division from 2003-06. Burt’s Bees is an industry leader for its commitment to sustainable business practices. Replogle also serves on the board of AuthorHouse, the leading print on demand publisher.

Mr. Joel T. Williams is the vice president of Williams Realty & Building Company, a position he has held since 1992. The company was founded in 1954 and handles residential and commercial construction, as well as property management and development. Williams is a Board member of the Boys and Girls Club and is a 1985 graduate of Ravenscroft. 

Mr. Yang  Yuanqing  is chairman of the board of Lenovo Group, Ltd. Prior to assuming his current position, he was the president and chief executive officer of Lenovo. Yang joined Lenovo in 1989 and became CEO in 2001. Under his leadership, Lenovo has been China's best-selling PC brand since 1997. In 1999, Lenovo ranked as first in PC sales in Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan) and has maintained this position ever since.

Ms. Carol Yochem is executive vice president for Wealth Management Services of Raleigh headquartered First Citizens Bank. Yochem joined First Citizens in 2005 as Head of Wealth Management and has overall responsibility for Institutional and Private Wealth Management including brokerage, private banking, corporate trust, retirement plan services, investment management, estate settlement, and personal trust. Prior to joining First Citizens, Yochem’s experience included 26 years of financial services at other large financial institutions, most recently in Nashville, Tenn. Yochem is a member of Campbell University’s Trust Education Board of Directors and a member of the N.C. State University’s College of Management Board of Directors.    

Commenting on the new additions, Dr. Francesco (Frank) Gozzo, Chairman of the Board stated: “The trustee selection process began over 12 months ago and focused on strong individuals that could further our new strategy, which includes a significant focus on international/global education, world-class technology initiatives, and extensive community involvement. I’m sure the strong roster of new trustees will help us achieve our new strategic direction.”    

Also commenting on the changes, Mrs. Doreen Kelly, Head of School remarked: “Ravenscroft continues to be blessed with an extremely strong and influential board of trustees. Our trustees are industry and community leaders, at the local, national and international levels. I look forward to working with the board closely as we launch our new initiatives.”

 Ravenscroft is a pre-kindergarten through grade 12 independent school, and is governed by a self-perpetuating board of trustees composed of 23 elected volunteers. The board determines the policies that govern the School, oversees the School’s strategic planning process, and has fiduciary responsibility for approving the annual operating budget and capital expenditures.
