A suggestion...

Given that there is often several hours (can be >36 on weekends) between the time one hits the post button and the time that the image appears on the forum, I suggest that volunteer moderators be enlisted to help shorten that gap. Those of us who post regularly (although I am a West-y-come-lately here) could take shifts to serve in that role- I think that it could increase the posting, and maybe liven the place up a bit. I understand that the staff have limitations, and so I figure that if enough of us were deputized that we could make this a truer community place to share!

I'm curous what you think- speak freely, maybe you have a better idea.

Thanks, West

One step further

I would take it one step further and post images right away (just like news, blogs and forum topics postings - which can contain images by the way).  You could still have deputies (moderators) to flag down inappropriate content.

All the best,
Dave

Friendly amendment to the motion accepted...

Dave is right, and I think I was trying to offer what might be more palatable to the powers that be. But in either case the community here should be able to see its posts much closer to real time. Thanks, Dave.

Other comments?

Or is it just Dave and me that would want to end the sometimes long delay before posts are actually posted?

Your opinion matters, so chime in. Thanks,

West

Posting Delay - photo contest

This is my first time to post any photos, since I submitted with the intention of entering them in the photo contest.  I was wondering how long it would take since the deadline is tonight.  Does anyone else know if I also have to submit in e-mail form for the contest?  The blurb in the paper wasn't real clear if sharing through this site would replace sending them by e-mail.  I sent an e-mail and asked that question but haven't received any response.

Anyone else submitting for contest?? I will probably submit some others for the heck of it:)  My Brother is a Photographer but I have alot to learn!!

Great idea

Just so long as we can have enough moderators on hand... or if possible have some kind of temporary holding area which the moderators can access (in addition to the N&O staff) and release the photos as soon as they see fit or are able too.

Agreed...

I agree that something closer to real-time posting would be nice. There would need to be regular policeing of the content because we all know some bone-head will try to post something inappropriate at some point. If for no other reason than to see if he/she can get away with it.

Photos for News Groups

Currently only 4 photos can be displayed at a time in a news group, but is there any way the techies can add a show all photos button for the news groups? A button to place a vote would be a nice addition too although this isn't nearly as urgent as I believe that most folks belonging to these groups would have already voted their approval simply by joining (or reading as often as the case may be here).

I'll find out

 Hey Java

We will take a look at that. That's a good question.

Did you take any snow photos today? We have a special gallery for snow photos at share.triangle.com/snowphotos.

No snow photos yet...

It looks much the same around my place as what I have seen in other people's photos (on the main public photo page) so far but as for a good background for my photos my area seems to be sorely lacking, although as I have noticed in the past the deeper the snow gets the less important the background becomes as the snow itself will begin to dominate the photo. It seems on the special snow photos page that some folks are getting a lot more snow!

Oh, and thanks for looking into the ability for expanding the news group photos.

Photos within blogs

Although I have not yet started any blog here, I have blogged in the past and while doing so had always embedded small photos in with the text. I don't know because I haven't started one here yet, but if so, is there a way to store photos in a seperate area in my user account for use in blogs so as to not eat up too much space on the main public photos area? If it's not possible yet (don't know because I have no blog yet), I think other bloggers might find this option to be of interest. If this is possible or can be possible I may seriously reconsider getting back into blogging again as photos can add so much more to one's blogging experiences as well as for the readers of these blogs too.
