| pre-schooler, Swift Creek Elementary School Achievements: Gold Star Nomination Person: Mr. Cliff Feather, retired principal Wake County Schools Achievement: Cliff Feather Scholarship Fund, Swift Creek School Cliff Feather’s thirty-year-career in public education showed his love and care for children. His elementary students were always paramount to him. Upon his retirement from Swift Creek Elementary School thirteen years ago, the faculty and friends donated funds to create the Cliff Feather Scholarship for the school. Every fifth grader at the school may apply for the annual grants awarded by Mr. Feather at the awards program. This year, following the interview and decision process, two young people will receive $750.00 savings bonds to be cashed later for their post secondary tuition. Cliff Feather has continued to make the scholarship grow. Each year he plans, organizes, and sells tickets for his famous barbecue chicken plates to raise money to add to the interest bearing account for the scholarships. He, along with former faculty members and the Swift Creek Exchange Club, prepare the items and plates for the barbecue dinner. In addition, Mr. Feather adds all the money he makes from mowing neighbors' lawns and other services to the account. He does all this so that the young people he believes in so profoundly can further their dreams. We salute Cliff Feather and the Cliff Feather Scholarship Fund at Swift Creek Elementary School, and especially salute the young people it serves. Submitted by: Mary Holloway |
