I would not want to be in the shoes of the school board. What a mess they have to deal with and I'm sure they have bags under their eyes and lots of gray hair tyring to do the best with what they have been dealt. First Raleigh keeps getting all these accolades nationwide for being the best place to live. So families like mine have moved here because of the great advertising campaign. No impact fees or contributions from the developer of my $500K+ housing development. Oh and huge tax breaks for companies who come to the Triangle who also bring more families in need of educaiton for their children. AND the Wake County Planning Board and Commissioners keep approving all the development without a long term plan for growth. Furthermore, the Commissioners who do nothing about the out of control growth, block the school board's ability to use the bond money we voters just approved knowing it included more year round schools because of said year round schools? That ties the school boards hands. Then a few very organized and voiciferous parents go to court claiming unequal education? I highly doubt this "unequal education" clause was put into place because of year round schools; I believe it had something to do with racism. Then Manning deems the school board doesn't have the authority for mandatory year round? What does the poor school board have the authority to do? How about if the school board makes everyone equal by converting every single school in Wake county year round. Then it would be absolutely fair to all, nothing unequal, all getting the same education. think of all the money we could save by not building more schools, schools that will be vacant in 20 years when this growth stops!
