Shortcut

If your normal way of getting from Durham to Chapel Hill or Southpoint is to take 15-501 to I-40 and get off at Hiway 54 or beyond, a good shortcut to avoid the I-40 leg is to turn left at the light before Mt. Moriah (to get to Patterson Place) and stay on what becomes Farrington Road. You will intersect Hiway 54. Turn right to get to Chapel Hill, or cross over 54 and turn left onto Stagecoach to get to 751, left to go to Southpoint.

Comment for kmeyers:

Your idea does sound like a good one, so long as you don't have to turn left onto 54 at Farrington. I tried to do that once during the evening rush one day this week and was stuck there for almost 10 minutes. Wouldn't want to do the same thing again this weekend.

Also, since I live just off 54, my detour route heading back from church is gonna be a doozy. I plan on taking 15-501 up to MLK Pkwy and hopefully get off at either Hope Valley (751) or Fayetteville before heading back home. Sure it may be a bit out of the way, but as we know, it could be much worse.
