What is Hospice? Hospice care focuses in providing comfort and quality of life to patients when the prognosis is a matter of months and not years and when a physician certifies Hospice service. Why are volunteers an important part of Heartland Hospice? Volunteers are the Heart of Heartland Hospice; they bring comfort and companionship to patients and caregivers providing a diversity of services. This may include, sitting with a patient and reading their favorite book to helping caregivers running errands or grocery shopping. Volunteer work is varied. No task is too big or too small. As patient and families needs change, so do volunteer opportunities. Most volunteers express a desire to "give back" for a kindness they experienced within their lives. Nearly all volunteers express that they find their reward in the privilege of serving others. Heartland Hospice volunteers are willing, committed, caring, and priceless for our patients, families, staff members, and the community.
