Not Buffalo Wings

Matt & Leah,

I'm a transplanted New Yorker from Rochester... What gives with the non-Buffalo wings? Anyone from upstate NY could tell you that they don't consider those other wierd wings you rated "Buffalo" wings, they're just something else. (Oriental? Japanese Black? ..)

I also don't consider wings with batter on them "Buffalo" wings. While I like the Ale House wings (one of my favorite places to go) I consider them battered wings with Buffalo sauce on them. I personally go to Blincos for their hot wings.  you also left out one of the places a lot of my NY go - *Buffalo* Brothers. With a name like that, how could they not even get rated in the wing survey? :D

If you decide to do a rematch let me know, I'd be happy to help as a judge! :D

Buffalo Knows Nothing about Wings

I'm not from Buffalo, Rochester or any part of upstate NY and I ate at the Anchor Bar and I can tell you these are not the best wings.  I have tried many wings throughout the North and the southeast and the best wings in the Triangle or south of Buffalo can ONLY be found at East Coast Wings in Cary.  The wings are very large (twice as large as Woody's or Buffalo Bros.) and they're always fresh.  They offer 39 flavors with many heat indexes which would put the Anchor Bar and the city of Buffalo to shame.  You need to try the true buffalo wing experience at East Coast Wings in Cary before you can ever consider comparing other wings houses in the Triangle.  I'm sure if you visited East Coast Wings you would not be dissapointed and you will have a difficult times finding a better wing.  Just as Buffalo fans found out who has the best hockey team they will soon realize who has the best wings.

Best Regards,

Wing-Tut

Wings

Try The Upper Deck in Cary for Wings....just down the road from East Coast Wings.....They are Awesome!

East Coast Wings is # 1

I agree the Upper Deck has some awesome wings and it always leaves a lasting impression.  However, the last impression is my SMOKE infested clothing that I want to burn after every visit to the Upper Deck.  You can cut the smoke with a knife and it should be the poster child for a second-hand smoke campaign.  The smoke free environment at East Coast Wings is always a welcome change from the smoke filled Upper Deck.  Putting the smoke issue aside the bottom line is the wing size, quality of wing and the taste is what really matters and here’s how I see it.

#1 EAST COAST WINGS by a large margin!

#2 UPPER DECK

buffalo wings

Just for your info before you go around slamming Buffalo wings from the Buffalo area please research this a little further. I agree with you that the Anchor bar has ok wings. They are only famous because they are noted for creating the idea behind the wing. But I can take you tomany other places in the Buffalo area that would put the Anchor Bar to shame as well as all places in the triangle or Charlotte as this is where I now live and I do travel to Raleigh at least once a week. Roz's in Cheektowaga NY has the best and hottest wings in Buffalo, hands dow. Thanks...

Wings

I too am from Rochester NY and own The Upper Deck Sports Bar in Cary.

Try our wings and REAL Garbage Plates some time.

I agree with Patrick

Been eating "Buffalo wings" since they were a nickel apiece (Syracuse, 1979) and agree that a real Buffalo wing is naked, deep fried, and coated in a mixture of nothing but melted margarine and "Frank's Hot Sauce", which is now French's/Durkees, depending on what aprt of the country you're in. Just like the Anchor Bar in Buffalo. Anything else is crap, not Buffalo Wings. Adjust the heat by adjusting the ratio of hot sauce to margarine.

Your comparison is about like doing a "Best Hamburger in town" comparison and then including meatloaf, veggie burgers, and Gainesburgers.

For the BEST Buffalo Wings, do it yourself. Fry them till they float (in peanut oil), and mix your own sauces. Can't beat 'em.

best wings

I agree that butter and Franks is the basis for a good wing sauce. But, this is just the base. try adding some buttermilk and other spices. Like celery seed. Or better yet try my sauce.

you missed the best ones in the Triangle

Also originally from upstate NY. I agree with Patrick's comments. Breaded Buffalo wings are NOT Buffalo wings and specialty wings are NOT Buffalo wings...period. Now, the best Buffalo style wings I have found in the Triangle are at Woody's and Playmaker's (especially since a new owner from NY took over last year). I also like the Buffalo Brothers wings.

The best wings I have had in

The best wings I have had in town was at The UpperDeck in Cary.
