Our organization is working towards refining the Confidential Intermediary Program which went into place on January 1, 2008.  This program allows for any licensed adoption agency (public or private) who wants to participate to do so.  Not all agencies are participating.  However there are some who are taking up for those who are not. 

What this program does is allow any adult adoptee, the adult lineal descendant of a deceased adoptee or birthparent to contact the agency and have them search for the other party.  When found the party is asked if they would like to have contact with the person searching, or if they would like to give updated non identifying information.

There have been House Select Committee meetings held which will refine this program to allow for biological or 1/2 siblings to participate. 

To allow for other members of the biological parents family to participate should the birthparent be deceased.

Allow for the agencies who are participating to be held accountable

Allow for a party who is searching and finds a deceased person at the end of the search to be able to have a copy of the death certificate to bring closure.
