...unless the crossing guard comes with a 2-ton truck to block the road.
There was an instance in Fayetteville a few years ago. A crossing guard was run down and killed in the crosswalk during school zone hours. No punitive action was taken against the driver.
I'm sure that the driver felt bad about it. I hope he changed his driving habits to be more careful in school zones, but I wouldn't count on it.
It was ironic to me that the newspaper there ran a story about how dangerous crossing guard duty is, but no real discussion about the responsibility of drivers to make that job less dangerous.
