September is Senior Prom Season for YWCA Older Adults

RALEIGH, N.C. – It may be September, but it’s prom time for seniors. A group of active older adults at the YWCA Greater Triangle are lacing up their dancing shoes and inviting area women and men ages 55 and older to experience an unforgettable evening at the YWCA Golden Oaks Senior Prom. Older adults will rekindle their youth as they step out in style to enjoy a delightful evening of dining and dancing.  The Senior Prom is a free event, open to the public.  It takes place Thursday, September 24, from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at the YWCA on Hargett Street in downtown Raleigh.

This year’s Senior Prom will feature the smooth sounds of A Moment’s Notice Jazz Ensemble so attendees can dance the night away.  The event is organized by members of the Golden Oaks, a no-cost YWCA program that enriches the lives of older adults and enables them to continue to live independently.

“Our seniors have so much fun getting dressed up. So, it’s no surprise they came up with the idea for a Senior Prom that’s open to our community,” said Eloise Best, program manager of the YWCA Golden Oaks.  “We encourage older singles and couples to take the opportunity to join us for a fun evening of dining, dancing, and meeting new friends.”

All attendees will walk the red carpet and two lucky participants will be crowned Prom King and Prom Queen.

  • Time: 6 – 9 p.m.
