Was Joe Wilson's outburst based on racism?

Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst to President Barack Obama during a speech to Congress last week was an act "based on racism" and rooted in fears of a black president. "There is an inherent feeling among many in this country that an African-American should not be president," he said. Read the story.

Do you think there is any truth to what Carter is saying?

No!

Of course it wasn't racist. Stupid comment by Carter. He's a Democrat so what do you expect.

NO?

So that must mean you're a republican which means your's is a stupid comment. Wow, we've really done a lot for an intellectual and responsible discussion now haven't we. Oh wait, that's right, you're a republican, these words are to big for you.

RE: you NO comment.

I would say that you are the one who needs a better education. It was not racist what Carter said, it was a statement against policy. Stop with the race card. Yes I am a Republican however, I would have voted for Colin Powell over McCain. But I could never vote for someone as inexperienced as Obama. He has proved he is more an entertainer/celebrity than our President. I think he has been on TV at least 500 times since innaugration.... hey lets get back to fixing our Country Mr. Pres. Now I hear you have just given up another slice of our National Security to Russia///// I have never not called my President by his name (even Pres. Clinton), but this guy who has 'beer parties' is not my idea of a dignitary, so to be he is just Obama.

???????

I truly believe that the senator was frustrated, are we not all upset with whats going on in thee USA! I wish we could tear thee NAFTA TREATY up! Bring thee jobs back home where they belong! Hey thee "President not all bad" he did defend Taylor Swift & called that Rapper a "Jackass"! As a wise man said he calledem like he saw-em!!!!! As for ex-president Carter, remember he was whipped by Ronald Reagan! So he is a loser, he needs to be in a retirement home, not blasting a US Senator! Amen! God Bless thee USA!

no

i can't say it was racist. every time someone has an issue with obama it will be called racist. sad.

I don't understand how

I don't understand how Carter could say this. Having been called anti-Semitic for disagreeing with our Middle East policy, he should know that branding someone as racist is just a way of shutting down legitimate discussion and debate. I think Wilson should have apologized for what he did - but only once - and we should get on with business.

No. Why can't someone point

No. Why can't someone point out the false information given in speeches by this President without being labeled as a racist? Did anyone notice how quickly the Dems. changed the wording in the health care bill to make sure the President wouldn't be caught in a lie? It is not racist to disagree with the actions of a President or the US government. How quickly the news media forgets the treatment of former President Bush by members of the Dem. party. And wasn't this the party who used mass politcal rallies to oppose the war in Iraq and the Patriot Act that President Obama just said we needed to continue?

Quote Miss Lillian

I'm reminded of Miss Lillian Carter's comment .... "we always thought Billy was the smarter one."

Mothers know best.

Carter

Jimmy Carter is an embarassment to all of us in Georgia. Please check his record - he ran in his first Georgia Senate race as a segregationist. Jimmy Carter is nothing more than an opportunist who is trying to rehabilitate his own miserable failures.

His outburst was based on facts available to him

I believe that Rep.Wilson's outburst was with conviction based on factual information that he has available to him. I commend Rep.Wilson speaking up like he did when everyone else was doing nothing. Rep.Wilson knew from facts available to him that what was being said was simply not true. He has nothing to be sorry for since he was standing up for the truth. Yes, perhaps it could have been put forth in a more discreet manner, but how? There are a lot of people in this country who don't want to be within a 1000 miles of socialism, Democrat wealth transfer policies, and spending that skyrockets our deficit.
