On Saturday, September 12, the musicians of the North Carolina Symphony are donating their services to perform a free outdoor concert in downtown Raleigh’s Moore Square as their gift to the community that supports them. William Henry Curry will conduct the concert (which begins at 7:30pm) and the Red Clay Ramblers will join the Symphony for some additional fun (the Ramblers are also donating their services that evening).
The City of Raleigh is graciously providing the infrastructure for the concert, and invites the entire community to come downtown, bring a picnic dinner, or eat at any of the local restaurants nearby. Prior to the Symphony concert, the Triangle Brass Band will perform at 6pm, so come on down early and enjoy the entire evening.
William Henry Curry Resident Conductor and Summerfest Artistic Director The Governor and Mrs. J. Melville Broughton Chair William Henry Curry begins his fourteenth season with the North Carolina Symphony in the 2009-10 season. He came to the North Carolina Symphony by way of New Orleans where he served as Resident Conductor of the New Orleans Symphony. Maestro Curry serves as the Artistic Director for Summerfest and all North Carolina Symphony summer programs. He conducts classical, educational and pops concerts throughout the state. Curry also begins his first season as Music Director of the Durham Symphony Orchestra this fall.
