Do you know what kind of flower this is? The same flower was growing wild at the river - I had no idea what kind of flower it was but it was very beautiful.
What you probably saw was the Butterfly Weed, a wild plant/wildflower. I bought my plant at a nursery and I think it is a cultavar of the wild plant. They are available in a variety of colors and my plant has grown to 3' since I bought it this spring. The wild plant grows about 12" or so high and has a shrub-like habit. I have posted both the orange and yellow varieties:
