the gorilla comment was not that big of a deal. just a joke that has been taken out of context. that's why it hasn't been a big story.

It WAS an insult....to every gorilla in the world.

It shows that America is in a state of civil war, whites vs. blacks, whites vs. hispanics, etc.
Sorry for you guys. It also shows nothing has changed.

A typical hateful racist statement--I'm not surprised. I'm a little glad it's out in the open so people can see his uglyness. What it really shows is how hard it is for some folks to accept that Barack Obama is our President. Get over it angry, bitter people.

Don't apologize. There are an arsenal of bigoted and racist commentary that has come from the right lately to prove, like it had to really be proven, that the compassionate Christian right is narrow-minded and rife with bigots and racist. No, not just the picture of past presidents with Obama as a set of eyes against a black backdrop, not just the picture of the White House behind a watermelon patch, not just calling Obama a racist Christian Muslim, but to see this story amongst all the rest, tips the iceberg.

My late grandfather, who was called "boy" well into his fifties, once felt sorry for me. He lamented, "racist in my day showed themselves to your face. We were lucky, we knew who hated the color of our skin. Today, they smile in your face." He was wrong, today, they make jokes and rationalize them as protected free speech. Of course its protected until you joke about the knocked up white girl whose mother is er um runnin' fer president.

I say, keep 'em coming. Show yourselves like your ancestors did. Keep proving why they called your grandpappy and his daddy "blue eye'd devil"

I don't think he should apologize simply because it would not be an authentic apology. He is a bigot and obviously old enough that God will be dealing with him soon. Then he can apologize to God for mocking one of His beautiful creations. I'd sure like to be a fly on the, um, cloud when that happens.

why are these comments acceptable to anyone from an electecd offical. I am sure he has blacks and other races in his state he is so called representing. So when the next gorilla escape is it ok for him to say one of my black members just escaped from the zoo. That is why I left south carolina so the clan can have there backward state.
