Share Triangle Paparazzi Calendar of Events

Java55

I think its time we start a Share Triangle Paparazzi Calendar of Events forum where we can post upcoming family-freindly events that are also good for photography. This way we can all know what photo opportunities that kids to adults can attend are coming up for those who can make it.

And remember those rubber band wrist bands for identification. I knew there had to be a good alternative use for all those N&O rubber bands I have been accumulating from my daily paper deliveries!

Revolutionary War Living History Day

Revolutionary War Living History Day - Saturday, February 21, 2009

Full Description:

10am-4pm on the grounds of the Alexander Dickson House (ca 1790), 150 E. King St., Hillsborough, NC. Continental, British and militia reenactors will demonstrate camp life during the Revolutionary War and commemorate General Cornwallis’ encampment in Hillsborough in February 1781. Events include marching drills, musket-firing demonstrations, open-flame cooking, and guided tours of Hillsborough’s colonial and Revolutionary War sites. More information available at 919-732-7741.

For reference to see some of what can be found here are links to a couple of tags that cover a good portion of photos from previous years:

I really do need to organise my tags better and have my pictures all under a single tag.

There will be more

There will be more of these posted as time goes on and events get closer. Mainly I am waiting on a lot of the event organisers websites and such to be updated prior to the events. Most will be within about an hours drive from anywhere in the triangle area and will cover everything from arts festivals to old mill crank-ups, and even a relaxing all day outdoor Jazz concert in a park with many performers and with plenty of great food too. Plus much more, so stay tuned, especially April, May, and parts of June! There might even be a guided nature hike (or two) in here too if conditions look promising.

On an addition note, the events or outings I will be posting here in the future will be inexpensive for the most part if not free (and a great bargain considering what's there) as I seemed to have become at master at finding these over the years while on a tight budget, and many are not even listed at NC tourism related online events schedules. And if gas prices stay minimal I believe many of these event organisers might do well as many folks will be looking for inexpensive alternatives this upcoming year for good family-friendly entertainment.

And of course, if anyone else finds good family-freindly events and photo opportunities to post do feel free to add to this list so we can have more to choose from!

Photo Ops and Cool Jazz - Saturday, April 25, 2009

Cool Jazz Festival

April 25, 2009
9AM - 7PM

Free Admission, $3 parking fee per car

Multiple stages will allow for continuous music throughout the day at New Hope Park (Blackwood Farms) near the intersection of Hwy 86 and New Hope Church Road between Hillsborough and Chapel Hill - not difficult to find as police will be directing traffic at the entrance along Hwy 86.

At the beginning there will be local high school bands, then college bands, and then followed by the professional bands. There will also be food and non-alcoholic beverages available as well as other vendors present too and plenty of space to find a spot to relax (in shade or sun) and to enjoy some great jazz, plus its a family friendly event so kids are welcome too.

And last but not least there will be plenty of good photo opportunities here too!

Aaaargh!

Wasted trip... I should have called the number in the link or sent an e-mail to verify this was to take place as I found out the hard way showing up only to find the gates locked and the place empty. Apparently the annual cool jazz festival was not to be this year for some unknown reasons to me - hope no one else made the trip out and was sorely disappointed.

This really bites the big kumara! :-(

...and I was so looking forwards to a nice relaxing day at the park with plenty of live jazz and photo opportunities. Next time I think I am going to need to get verification through listed numbers/e-mails, or at least find the event(s) listed at multiple sites.

It's amazing that this event

It's amazing that this event didn't happen. I found it listed on at least two different sites that list local events. It sure looked real.
