Run for the Kids postponed; watch for other events affected by Hanna

| | | | | | | | |

Before you go to an outdoor sports event this weekend, be sure to check to see that it hasn't been postponed. Wet weather is affected to affect the area as Tropical Storm Hannah arrives and Hurricane Ike potentially threatens. Storm coverage and updates on postponements and cancellations can be found at newsobserver.com. Events also will be updated in the Play! Recreational Sports Calendar as they are received. If you have a postponement or cancellation, e-mail play@newsobserver.com and also post on the Play! Recreational Sports Page. Be sure to use the green bars in the MIDDLE of the page and ignore the vertical menu on the left so your announcements will be posted to the Play! page and not elsewhere.

Here's one postponement, submitted by Christine Cotton, one of the event organizers:

The University of North Carolina and the UNC track & field and cross country coaches and student athletes will host their Run for the Kids next Saturday, September, 13th, with the 5K starting at 10am and the 1-mile at 11am (please note the new 5K and 1-mile start times). Child care will still be provided.

As an added bonus – we invite you to come out early and watch the UNC Men’s and Women’s UNC Challenge Cross Country meet starting on the course at 8:30! The meet will feature athletes from several ACC schools and will be a great opportunity for young runners to see a college level meet in action.
