Flaw of the wall

Flaw of the wall

To be sure, Raleigh Convention Center’s nifty shimmer wall is an elegant solution to a functional problem. But still I wonder, am I the only one in town who finds the asymmetry of the oak -- and resulting asymmetry of the shimmer effect -- undeniably unsettling?

Could it be there’s a design flaw in our beloved shimmer wall? Or did its creators intend for the right side generally to appear darker than the left? And did they mean for us to be able to see through to the mechanical systems on that side, but not on the left?

It’s just bugging me, and I can’t seem to let it go. I want balance!

Flaw on the wall

My first thoughts were of a more technical nature - what is the maximum designed wind load for this wall?
