Here's a news release about the event from the Carolinas PGA Section.
CAROLINAS PGA SECTION PREPARES FOR SUCCESS AT
2008 PATRIOT GOLF DAY!
Come One, Come All to the Second Annual Event!
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (August 11, 2008) – The Carolinas PGA Section invites golfers of all skill, age and interest levels to take part in the 2nd Annual Patriot Golf Day sponsored by TaylorMade-adidas Golf, being held Labor Day weekend, August 29 - September 1, at a number of local Carolinas PGA member facilities.
Over 200 of our 600 member facilities in every part of North and South Carolina have registered to host their own special Patriot Golf Day, which benefits the Folds of Honor Foundation, an organization hat provides scholarship opportunities to the families of soldiers who’ve been injured or killed in the line of military duty.
Captain Dan Rooney, Program Leader for the Folds of Honor Foundation, started Patriot Golf Day after he’d finished his second tour of duty in Iraq, recognizing the tremendous need to provide support to the families of his comrades, killed and injured. Patriot Golf Day events range in organization from a simple $1 addition to greens fees all the way to Patriot Golf Day tournaments and clinics, from which all proceeds go to the Folds of Honor Foundation. Last year, 138 facilities in the Carolinas alone raised $55,000 during the one day event and more than a million dollars was raised nationwide. This year the Carolinas is looking to take a bigger bite out of the final total and we’re excited about the possibilities!
One major reason for the excitement is due to sponsorship from TaylorMade-adidas Golf. In July, TaylorMade-adidas Golf signed on to support this initiative by supplying the opportunity for host facilities all over the United States to auction off 3,000 limited-edition TaylorMade drivers, complete with Patriot Golf Day logo and head cover. The funds raised from these auctions will be fully applied to the Folds of Honor Foundation, a charity that currently sees 90% of the money raised go directly to the families who need it most, not to administrative fees.
The Carolinas PGA Section has put a lot of effort into providing your area of the Carolinas with every opportunity to be involved with Patriot Golf Day – now we just need you! All we ask is that you play some golf this Labor Day weekend and give just one dollar to the Folds of Honor Foundation. Head to PatriotGolfDay.com to see where your local Patriot Golf Day facility is, and if your home course isn’t
currently registered, ask them to participate. We’d love to see you out Labor Day weekend, supporting the families of the brave people who give the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
