Apex Squadron Places 2nd in National Competition

Dedication and teamwork paid off for the Drill Team from the Apex squadron of the Civil Air Patrol as they took 2nd place at the National Drill Competition at Wright Patterson AFB in Dayton, OH.  The teens on the drill team started preparing for the competition in late 2007. They won the state competition and the Mid Eastern Region competition in order to compete in Dayton. The squadron has had a team at the national competition 5 out 6 years.

 

The team competed in 7 events against 8 other teams from around the country. The competition consisted of: uniform inspection (1st place), written exam (1st place), innovative drill (2nd place), panel quiz (2nd place), standard drill, mile run (3rd) and volleyball.  In addition to the Drill Team winning 2nd place in the overall competition, several members of the team won individual awards for the high scores in the individual events.

 The Apex Squadron of the Civil Air Patrol meets at Hope Community Church at 821 Buck Jones Rd. in Cary every Thursday night from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm.
