"Cumbrae seals"

"Cumbrae seals"

We took a small fishing boat from  Great Cumbrae to Little Cumbrae and came across these colonies of seals basking on their rocky  islands. They were not at all bothered by us watching them and in fact seemed quite content and even a little curious!

Cumbrae seals

Excellent shot!

Just a word of caution: As with all seals don't get too close to them because sometimes they can knock your camera right out of your hands when the move about suddenly, and trust me they are a lot stronger than they appear!

Thank you for your advice.I would never get really close as I don't wish to upset the seals or interfere with their habitat. The fisherman who took us out just turned off the motor on his little fishing boat to allow us to watch them  quietly from about 16 feet away .We also saw some basking sharks but I wasn't quick enough with the camera to snap them! Sadly a whale was beached while we were in Scotland but it couldn't be moved back into the water and had to be euthanised :(
