What do you think of race relations in our country?

Even though some seem excited by the fact Barack Obama could be president, some people still seem to harbor bad feelings about minorities in this country. The recent events at Triangle Town Center have caused some to express those feelings.

How do you see race in our country? Do we make judgments about people based on stereotypes and not individuals? Is that fair?

good but not great

better but still not balanced. just look at the news.

Race issues

Just because one will not vote for Obama does not mean it's because he is black. But apparently you would like for all to think it's true!
And yes,I stereotype and will continue to do so.It has certainly kept me away from the wrong people and areas.Stereotyping is the use of good common sense.

Race Relations

I think race relations vary greatly from state to state, and even geographically within our state. I beleive a persons perception(s) concerning people of other races is sometimes enviornmental. If your parents feel a certain way, then you are more likely to have similiar feelings.

I am having a hard time with people bringing Obama into the "race" conversation. I understand his father is black, his mother is white and he was raised by his mother. So, does the fact he has a black father that possibly did not participate in his upbringing, is he black? Since his mother is white and he was raised by his mother, is he more white than black? I know he married a black woman, who in my opinion comes across as a sterotypical black woman. At some point we need to stop talking about skin color, since we as a society are becoming more "blended". I will not vote for Obama, but it has nothing to do with the color of his skin. It has to do with his lack of experience in politics, even though he is a great speaker and motivator. I will never understand why someone with his talent would choose to run for office.

Okay, how many toes have I step on?

When will we start thinking in color?

During the last Ice Age (1000 years duration), most of the people that survived and repopulated the world came from the Gobi desert in Africa. DNA testing by the World Health Organization confirmed this. The Sanda tribe (mentioned) has a blend of characteristics of Negroid, Caucasiod and Mongoloid races.

Does this mean White people have African blood? Yup. How ironic!

If Obama doesn't win, he can always remarry & father a child with a Spanish/Asian woman. His new son would then be a combo of EVERY race.

Maybe then, Americans can throw out the black/white way of thinking? The only criteria for eligility should be the ability to run the country and get it out of debt!

Crime and race.... what is the racial climate..... voting how

I think that people are comfortable with what they know, which when you related that to race - says how, where and when an individual lived and/or became acclimated to the boundaries of their particular lives. I don't judge others actions to determine how I feel about race, but you can be sure that there are those who do. When people think gangs, they think black gangs. However, the reality of the first gangs started during prohibition with the appearance of the mafia in this country. And you know this history of the mafia and how and where they began. So what is the difference between street crime and conservative societal covered up crime. For sure the perception of what is seen and what is not seen openly is the difference in how individuals relate to it as well as to understand crime and race.

As far as voting for O'Bama, yes I will. And I look at it this way. Maybe he does lack experience, and so he happens to be black - I figure he is the only one who can do the best to change thing for the better. The one who can reestablish something detrimental and worthy in this country. McClain certainly won't. His mindset is and always will be grounded in the mid to late 70's. He stopped grasping the changing societies of the world, and the political changes necessary to maintain that same world and even our American society. If you are happy with the world that Bush has given us for the past eight years help yourself and vote for McClain, but be sure that you have the means and measure in pocketbook and spirit to afford it. This time I am voting for a change. O'Bama is that opportunity and even if he can't deliver -- he can't begin to do half as bad as has already been done -- and definitely not as bad as John McClaim will do.

Remember that in a world where the have nots, it continue to be hopeless. Know that a path has been laid for every imaginable crime conceivable to mankind, and that crime can and will be prevalent. Guess what. Color will at some point not matter in this either. The bridge between color and the have and have nots is surly narrowing. If the media showed a real proportion of the crime in this country, maybe the faces you see would me more familiar, instead of black.

Race Relations--There are more than 2 groups

In this discussion here in the south, it seems to center on white and black. I want to reminder me that there are many races, colors, ethnic backgrounds and languages. There is often a lack of recognition of other groups than white and black in the south. There is often a resentment of the growing Hispanic population in NC.
