Local martial arts students capture medals in Texas
Members of REDFIELD MARTIAL ARTS in Garner travelled to Arlington Texas for the 2008 All Tang Soo Do International Festival and Tournament. The three day event was held at the Sheraton Arlington Convention Center. Thursday featured Clinics on self defense, Form training and various Martial Arts Techniques.Friday began competitions in Weapons , Open Hand Forms and Sparring.As well as Team Forms and Team Sparring. Saturday started off with Kodanja competitions followed by under black belt divisions. Master Redfield lead off the North Carolina teams victories with Gold Medals in both Kodanja(Master) Weapons, and Kodanja Sparring divisions as well as a Bronze Medal in Kodanja OpenHand Forms. His children who are also martial artists followed with Teagan Redfield earning a Gold Medal in Girls 13-15 Redbelt , Bryon Redfield fought his was to a Silver Medal in Boys 11-12 Redbelt. 10 year old Greenbelt Austin Morock took Silver in Sparring and Bronze in Forms. Micheal Wiedemann captured Silver in Sparring and Bronze in Forms in the Mens Greenbelt Division, while his wife Barbara battled her way to Bronze Medals in both Sparring and Forms. After the tournament the much anticipated Awards Ceremony and Banquet, where Master Redfield was the recipient of the 2008 Chil Sun Guiding Light Award, “Presented to the Participant Best Exemplifying the Ideals of Tang Soo Do. Master Redfield was surprised and honored to be this years recipient of the award. Presenting the award was Grand Master Charles Ferraro along with the Technical Advisory Committee of the Tang Soo Do Mi Guk Kwan Association.
The North Carolnina Team also had time to take in some fine dining in Arlington as well as spending time at Six Flags Over Texas and Hurrican Harbor Water Park. All the members had a wonderful time and cannot wait to see where the Tournament will be next year.
