Mount McDirt

Mount McDirt

For the past few years Mount McDirt has graced West Raleigh as a locally well-known landmark near the intersection of Blue Ridge Road and Hillsborough Street upon the campus at NCSU College of Veterinary Medicine. Currently Mount McDirt is the highest topographical land feature in all of West Raleigh. Should it be preserved for future generations as West Raleigh's highest topographical land feature, built higher, or leveled? Personally I would love to see it preserved as a future giant test bed for the DOT's new experimental breeds of roadside flowers as it would transform this otherwise dull looking mountain of dirt into a rather unique tourist attraction - think of the potentials.

McDirt

I'm with you; how about les fleurs on a peak:)

Mount McDirt

I'm thinking that with all the different exposures: North, East, West, South - NEWS - and even a small valley running east to west down from the peak, the possibility exists for perhaps maybe 5 microclimates to occur at Mount McDirt if it is developed properly. What better place could there be all at one location for test bed rows of flower species to be planted spiraling downwards from the peak and crossing over all these different microclimates in the process? After each growing season it could then be determined which species are best suited for a particular environment in terms of the direction of slope for any particular road embankment and also even roadway valley environments too. Just a thought.

Oh, and perhaps a sixth microclimate - les fleurs on the peak :)
