Every Thursday, North Hills has a Free Beach Music Event, 6:00 to 8:30pm. I hit it for the first time last night: http://www.northhillsraleigh.com/EventsEntertainment.htm

Ok, maybe I love the Beach Event more than the music but it all works together.
The commons area that the bands play in is surrounded by restaurants, park once, eat and party right on the spot. A lady from Chick-Fil-A was handing out helium filled balloons to kids, most concerts I hit that have bundles of balloons are at Freak Shows and filled with laughing gas, but it must be the balloons itself since the little kiddies were laughing and running around anyway. All through the rest of the night the lighter than air rubber objects continually rose to the sky as they were set free.
Beach Music bands always seem to have a "uniform" on, all wearing the same shirt. Today there was a Sun World and a Shade World and all were searching for territory in the darker regions. The band had the sun right in their face all day; you could have fried eggs on the saxophone.
In front of the stage there was actually a big checker board dance floor which stayed in use most the night with shaggers. You have to smile at a dance called “shagging”, especially if you can associate the English meaning.
Between sets you could bravely step up and take a beginners shag lesson but I had yet to partake enough of the very cold Bud Lite to lubricate my inhibitions. The girls serving the beer wore tight black tops that cut way down in the front and the bending over cycles of serving had their tip jars overrunning.
The early arriving crowd was of the upper age ranges but the later it got the younger the masses arriving became. It’s a great time of year with all the ladies wearing their breezy summer outfits to keep them cool while heating up those that people watch them.
I’ve been to the beach without leaving Raleigh, that’s some hell of a good gas mileage.
