World War II vets gather for birthday

Three brothers who all volunteered for service in World War II recently gathered to celebrate the birthday of their oldest brother. William S. “ Bill” Anderson, a resident of Liberty Commons in Benson, celebrated his 92nd birth on April 26th with his two brothers, Leslie Anderson, 86, of Mount Olive, and Woodrow J. Anderson, 87, of Goldsboro, by his side. The brothers, the sons of the late Jesse Thomas and Janie Hines Anderson of Wayne County, all enlisted in 1942. Bill enlisted first in January and joined the Army. Four months later, Woodrow enlisted in the Navy. Then, in September, Leslie enlisted in the Navy. A relative, Dennis Anderson of Garner, reports that after the war, the brothers returned to Wayne County, married, and raise families.
