Give Help and Hope
Raleigh, NC – May 19, 2008 – Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association (AA), Butterfly Life Raleigh (BFL) and Healthy Connections Network (HCN), a leading networking group specializing in alternative health and green living throughout the Triangle area are having their first joint Alzheimer’s Fundraiser Wellness Expo at Butterfly Life (3512 Wade Ave, Raleigh, NC 27607) in Raleigh on June 21 2008 from 2:00pm to 5:00pm.
“Our group does Wellness Expos on a regular basis. This time we decided to dedicate our time and efforts to help the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association to raise funds that might some day help find the cure. ”, said Marina Lando, founder of Healthy Connections Network.
5.2 million Americans currently suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and it is estimated that 10 million U. S. baby boomers will develop Alzheimer’s disease unless a cause and/or cure is discovered. Alzheimer’s is a degenerative disease that attacks the brain and results in impaired memory, thinking, and behavior tragically altering the life of the individual with Alzheimer’s as well as their families and communities.
“Approximately 14 million people in the United States will have Alzheimer's disease by the middle of the 21st century unless science finds a way to prevent or cure the disease. One in 10 persons over age 65 and nearly half of those over 85 have Alzheimer's.”, said Alice Watkins, Executive Director of Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
All visitors will have the opportunity to participate in prize drawing by buying raffle tickets. One hundred percent of the sale of raffle tickets will go to the Eastern North Carolina Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association. In this fundraising effort, local businesses, members of Healthy Connections and their guests, will donate a portion of their proceeds to the Chapter. The grand “Mystery Prize” worth at least $500 will be auctioned by the end of the event.
