The Center for Volunteer Caregiving is offering a workshop to equip families and respite volunteers to provide quality interaction and effective communication with someone with memory impairment.
Volunteers are needed to provide respite care for the primary caregiver of someone living with Alzheimer’s, stroke or other memory loss disease. The Center trains and matches each volunteer to become a companion for the person with dementia, usually for 2-4 hours a week, or monthly, depending on the volunteer’s schedule.
Any family member who cares for a loved one with dementia is invited to attend the workshop as well. The workshop provides information about Alzheimer’s disease and teaches skills how to focus on the strengths of the person with memory impairment and how to improve communication.
