Who should take care of Ricoh? Discuss this story

|

After a cell phone recorded video of State Highway Patrol Sgt. Charles L. Jones kicking his police dog, Ricoh, officials said the dog would be retired to another trooper's care.

Last month, a familiar face popped up in Jones' backyard, one neighbors thought they would never see again: Ricoh, the pointy-eared, 8-year-old Belgian Malinois with the deep, hearty bark.

Now, the patrol is launching a second investigation. This time, officials want to know how Ricoh wound up back with Jones, who is battling to keep his job on the force. Who should take care of Ricoh? Join the discussion on this case below.

Should the trooper have been fired?

Yes! This look alittle extreem and not standard discipline. In fact, I bothers me to watch it and could not do it a second time.

Should the trooper have been fired?

Oh Yes! But first he should be "helicoptered", tied to a railing and kicked twice as many times. What is WRONG with someone who abuses animals? He obviously has a serious psycholigical disorder and needs serious treatment. And so does the other officer who did the filming. He's just as guilty for allowing it to happen. I couldn't bring myself to watch the video after reading the article. I am in healthcare and people who do things like this will do anything. Such as child abuse, spouse abuse, bullying, elder abuse.....

fishing for discipline

while this officer may not have been consciously doing anything wrong, I would suspect that subconsciously this man was fishing for help with his psychological problems. It's hard to understand these type of people, but we just have to love them and try our best. We need, in our society, to understand that people who have a hard time integrating the society have a hard time integrating be caused day mate choice is and were involved in situations that most people did not experience. We should not be upset that people are different. All people try to do the best that they can with the experience that they have.

Dah..... Just think what he

Dah.....

Just think what he might do when in rage to a person!

This man is not enraged. He is calm.

Did you watch his demeaner. He is calm, bored. He is annoyed that the dog will not release and stop biting, but he is just gradually escalating the pain level until the dog will release the bite. This man is not angry. This is the kind of man who would calmly force this dog to stop biting you if the dog attacked you. This man did not want to be kicking this dog. He HAD to keep escalating the pressure until the dog release the bite, or the dog would get the idea that the DOG gets to decide if he keeps chewing someone's arm off, even though the handler told him not to. Damn. If this dog was hanging off your arm, and wouldn't release the bite, don't you think kicking him is warranted? You are a liar if you won't admit that. This dog set the pain level, NOT the handler. He did try helicoptering the dog first and he has told it to release MANY, MANY times.

That is obsurd. I am a dog

That is obsurd. I am a dog trainer for the US Army and I can certainly tell you that this type of behavior is totally unnessesary and inhumane. There are many differant techniques to get the dog to "Los" or release his hold on a sleeve or ball. One that works especially well is spaying it in the face with a dime store squirt gun. This bothers the dog but does no physical harm to it. There are many other techniques that I won't discuss for the sake of time as well as OPSEC, but this guy was as wrong as one could be acting in this manner. And I'm sorry, you are a fool if you think this is acceptable. This hanlder should be tied up to a high level roof so that his airway is restriced in the same manner, and I'll kick him in the spine repeatidly and we'll try his little training tool on him, to test it's effectiveness.

K9 Dog Abuse

I was online researching care of K9 dogs because I am trying to help a K9 dog in my county who is being abused. As a dog trainer for the Army, can you send me any guidlines for how these wonderful dogs are supposed to be cared for? No one will do anything about the dog I am trying to help because his handler is a deputy and everyone is afraid to "rock the boat." Many officials have been contacted by the public, but nothing happens. Seeing the post of the officer kicking his dog makes me wonder if this is an epidemic of cruelty that needs to be addressed on National news!!!

You are uniformed

Dogs are very intelligent animals that respond excellently to positve reinforcement. You do not have to beat a dog to train he/she. This man is not a qualified canine trainer. He deserved to be fired and I hope the governor makes sure he is never again in law enforcement in this state.

I think it is appalling that

I think it is appalling that this type of "training method" would be considered acceptable. These dogs deserve so much better. Officer Jones should be arrested for animal cruelty and never allowed to be around animals again.

Calm?!?

If you honestly believe that this cop is doing nothing wrong and he is calm and collected then maybe you should trade places with the dog and see if you still have the same opinion!
