Should the NBA could raise the age limit—again?
NBA commissioner David Stern wants to raise the minimum age to 20. This means many players would have to stay in college for at least two years. What do you think?
Raising Age Limit
I think that raising the age limit to 20 is a good thing for both college basketball and the NBA. At least it will give the player an opportunity to mature physically and (more importantly) mentally. I strongly believe that AAU and prep schools have hurt both because they create teams of "superstars". Individual player development is stymied because of the wealth of talent and the ability to "hide" weaknesses or weak links. When these players get to college, more often than not their weaknesses are exposed and (for whatever reason) are never corrected. Some college coaches are to blame due to their inability to develop individuals into fundamentally sound players (does anyone teach sound free throw shooting, post moves, and the mid-range jumper anymore?!?). Consequently, the current product in the NBA is nothing more than a collegiate senior class level of talent.
Age Limit
The age limit should be raised to 22, so "student athletes" can return to being just that. If they don't like it, then they can turn pro at 18 and not go to college.

the american game of basketball has taking a serious hit over the last ten - fifteen years. It started with the explosion of AAU ball and crooked managers and their inability to coach actual basketball. all these managers care about is rolling a ball out on the court and finding their diamond in the rough and cashig in with their blue chipper. Until we fix that problem, it doesnt matter when kids go pro.
