Two children were hit by a car yesterday at Spring Forest and Falls of Neuse Roads. (Edited to: Both died.) The children and a woman with them crossed the street against the red light, and against the "Don't Walk" sign. The children ran into the path of an SUV that had a green light and was not speeding.
The N&O published the name and home address of the driver, even though she was not and will not be charged with any offense.
This exposes her to possible harassment, or WORSE.
The woman is devastated. Her pastor and her congregation are rallying around her. She did nothing wrong.
Why did the N&O publish her full name and home address? Did that add anything meaningful to the story?
I'm cancelling my subscription today, and I encourage you to do likewise, until such time as the N&O learns to protect the privacy of innocent people.
Suppose someone tracks down that woman and assaults her? I think this is far beyond unethical behavior ... it's outright dangerous.

Why I care about this.
My shop is at that intersection. My wife was the first one in the street after the accident, and helped direct traffic so the EMS crews could get there. We have two boys ages 6 and 9. She couldn't stop crying for hours last night.
It's been a horrible experience, and you can get post-traumatic stress just from witnessing something like that. Our hearts go out to the driver of the car, who really had no chance at all to avoid the children.
This is utterly disgusting, that the N&O would publish her full name and home address. If anything bad happens to her because of that, I'll publicize it far and wide as "The lady who got set up by the N&O".
What the hell are they thinking?
