Ravenscroft Odyssey of the Mind Team Qualifies for States

| | |

The Ravenscroft Middle School Odyssey of the Mind team took second place at the regional tournament on Saturday, March 8, and has advanced to the state competition held April 5 at East Carolina University in Greenville.

The members of the Ravenscroft team are: sixth-graders Garrett Anderson, Colson Dorafshar, Philip Hood, Sara Kasbekar, and eighth-grader Eric Norford. The team is coached by Joellyn Johnson, a Middle School math instructor.

Ravenscroft took first place in the spontaneous problem solving portion of the competition and second place overall for their presentation of their solution to the long term problem, "The Eccentrics," this year's NASA-sponsored problem.

Each year, one student in the tournament is awarded Odyssey of the Mind's highest honor, the OMER Award for individual achievement. The OMER Award is given to individual who best exemplifies the spirit and philosophy of Odyssey of the Mind or team members whom are deemed to be exceptionally talented, or who best exemplify good sportsmanship and teamwork. Ravenscroft was honored to have Eric Norford accept that award this year.
