A cow with something to say?

A cow with something to say?

While driving south out of Hillsborough along Orange Grove Road into the southern parts of Orange County, I happened to notice some Holstein heifers grazing near the roadside on just the other side of a fence, so figuring this to be a good photo opportunity I pulled over to take a few photos. What I discovered is these curious heifers have definitely got their own individual personalities. Here is one of the photos I took that afternoon from between the wires of the fence.

Actually...

This heifer was chewing its cud and seconds later raised its head to swallow it. Took a shot of that too... kinda gross!

I was just shooting rounds of photos

I was just shooting rounds of photos there for about 10 minutes and that particular one was amongst them. I really didn't notice how comical it was until after I was sorting through all the photos later on that evening and discovered it.

They must like you

I'm surprised these girls were so friendly. Whenever I used to pause on my bike rides to visit with the grazing cows out that way, they always scooted warily away. (So much for that reputed herd bravery.) Were you actually as close as the image suggests?

Something about the color palette in this pic really appeals to me, by the way.  Nice one, Java.

They came right up to me

The one in the photo above seemed to be the bravest of the heifers and led the rest cautiously right up the the fence where I was at meanwhile as I was stooped down (with my camera aimed between the wires of the fence) so as to not look too threatening. They were a curious group which just had to check me out as I was photographing them but after about 10 minutes or so I guess they got bored and went back to grazing. By the way, you may want to click the "heifers" tag below the photo to see another photo from this same batch that I also liked a lot.
