Protect Your Home From Wildfire

Become a Firewise Community. Firewise Communities/USA is a project of the National Wildfire Coordinating Group's Wildland/Urban Interface Working Team.

Firewise communities are those that have developed a wildfire mitigation plan and have taken such actions as removing potential fuels from close proximity to houses; have encouraged use of fire-resistant construction materials, and have considered the role landscaping can play reducing the probability of wildfire spreading to a structure.

The NC Division of Forest Resources operates a website WWW. NCFIREWISE.ORG that has information, suggestions for organizing your community as well as sample plans and materials that will help you develop your own community plan.

For more information, contact the NC Division of Forest Resources or the State Hazard Mitigation Officer in the NC Division of Emergency Management.
