House Select Committee on Adoptee Birth Certificates

njadoptee
Dedication is to immerse oneself with sincerity into a certain subject or properly the setting apart of anything by solemn proclamation.
The North Carolina Coalition for Adoption Reform is moving forward AGAIN!  We will not stop with the Confidential Intermediary Program!  Speaker Hackney has allowed a Study Commission and hearing to held to study allowing adult adoptees access to their original birth certificates.  The first meeting was yesterday.   Yesterday's meeting was full of information on the history of adoption law in this state.  Many great questions were raised that have yet to be answered.  In attendance were the Right to Life organization and the National Council for Family Policy.  Neither groups are for full acces to the original birth certificate.
5 people from the genereal public showed up in favor of this study.  Three were Board Members of NCCAR; myself included.  We are hopeful that we'll have more in the future.
Two of the most interesting and incorrect statements that I heard was that most adoptees and birth parents already know each other in the State of NC and that petitioning the court was a very quick and easy process.  (For a few counties this holds true.)  There is still work to be done!
Selflessness is the act of sacrificing ones own interest for the greater good.
The next meeting will be on February 13, 2008 from 2-4 pm in room 1124/1224 in the Legislative Building.
Additional hearings on:
March 5, 2008 from 2-4pm in room 544 in the Legislative Office Building.
(Adam Pertman will attend this one.  He is the Executive Director of the Evan B. Donaldson Institute on Adoption.)
March 26, 2008 from 2-4pm in room 1228/1327 in the Legislative Building.
Please mark your calendars and plan to attend one or all of these hearings.
Share the above with everyone in the adoption triad as well as concerned citizens.
Sacrifice is a term used metaphorically to describe selfless good deeds for others, or a short term loss in return for a greater gain or outcome.
