Is Raleigh the best city for singles?

|

Every Day with Rachael Ray magazine says Raleigh is "The Best American City for Singles." Others say Raleigh isn't even the best city for singles in the state (they prefer Charlotte). What do you think? Should we expect an influx of young people looking for love in the Capital City?

Best American City for Singles

As a Raleigh Native I also cringe everytime The Triangle makes another "best list!!!" Whenever Raleigh receives these "best city for singles accolades" they don't say that 60% of those singles are Ages 22-32! This area is great if you are in that age range or are married with 2.5 kids Its a pathetic city if you are a "single professional in your late 30 to 40's"

Things for Singles to do in the Triangle

I have lived in Triangle since 1980. I was surprised to find that there are social groups for singles beyond the Jaycee's, The Raleigh Ski and Outing Club, and the Art Museum Contemporaries. I only found out about this after I join Meetup.com. Now I run a very large singles group. The most active sub-section of the group is the 40s/50s+ age range. I would say that the majority of the 1500+ members of the group are in their 40s.

There is plenty to do here in the Triangle and if not, you have easy access to the beach and the mountains. I just got back from a multi-group event at Snowshoe, WV. We had 150 people attend from NC, SC, TN, FL, GA, MD, VA, and DC.

Singles scene in RDU for 40's and 50's

I have been very disappointed with the scene for socializing and meeting women in their 40's.  All clubs that my buds and I go to are either college age are there is hardly anyone present.  Where are all the "young" women in their 40's?  Have they just given up?  Let us know and we will be there.

Agree

I agree that the Raleigh single scene is only great if you are in your 20's in college! And there seem to be a ton of women around here so men should have it easy! And there have been many bars opened recently that you would think would help, ESS Lounge, Mosquito Lounge and still I have not met any interesting men over 35.
So I just want to know where else to go to meet people. I think if we had another professional sports team like baseball or football it would bring more men, but as someone said Charlotte has a better singles scene than Raleigh. Oh well..

Raleigh sucks for me

I've been single here for 1.2 years and I'm 32 male and look like i'm 25. I'm fit attractive but the problem is i'm not 6' tall. I'm only 5'7 and it seems all the girls here want a guy who is much taller. I lived in Virginia Beach before moving here and never was without a girlfriend for this long. I think people here set their standards too high.

Don't fret, there are single

Don't fret, there are single women out there who don't mind the height issue. I am 29, sucessfull and attractive and I would rather have a short guy (I am 5 foot 4 myself). Have fun out there!
