Six days till our planes take off!!!

Hello all! My name is Catherine and I am a junior who plays trombone in the Broughton Band. Our band director is the famous JR, and I am lucky enough to have known him for almost ten years now. I saw my brother play in the Broughton Band when I was seven years old, and I knew that I would want to follow in his footsteps. So here I am ten years later doing what I always wanted to do. I hope that as you follow and watch our trip unfold, you will see how much fun we have in the Broughton Band.

As our trip gets closer and closer, we all are getting more excited everyday. This trip to California has snuck up on us all so quickly. It feels las though JR was just telling us we were accepted to be a part of the Rose Parade- which was a full year ago. Everybody is excited and ready to leave. We all have been working so hard to make sure we get our music down just right.

Up until last week we have been practicing the parade music twice a week after school for about two hours. Those practices consist of marching in circles around our school's track while playing Stars and Stripes Forever and It's a Grand Ole Flag over and over again. We also have been working on our field show during band class.

Last Thursday we had our last afterschool rehearsal. But we still have one more practice scheduled before we leave and that is this Thursday for four long hours. Hopefully it will make the Rose Parade seem easy since that practice is one hour longer than the actual parade.

This past Friday during band class we had our annual band luncheon. The Broughton Band has always been known for the fabulous food our parents bring with us for Marching Band contests and the luncheon is no exception. Spreads are pulled out on at least three tables. Our parents put red tablecloths on them and cover the tables with food (and that’s just the main dishes). Our favorite part is the desserts- brownies, cookies and every sweet you could imagine! We all had fun eating and handing out Christmas presents to each other. I hope you all have Happy Holidays!!!Until next time,

-Catherine

I was lucky enough to be in band when we marched for Bush Sr's Inagural and The Orange Bowl. Seems like yesterday! They were both a blast and events you will treasure as you get older.

You guys are going to be great!!!
