…and frankly, I’m already disappointed.
Now, I’ll admit to not being the most up-to-date person as far as current events are concerned, but I’m pretty sure that last year around this time there was a “War on Christmas” going on.
So what ever happened with that?
As I understood it, some folks accused some other folks of waging war on Christmas. I was never entirely sure who the combatants were, but the fighting seemed pretty fierce just the same. And then…nothing. Did the evildoers just declare “Mission Accomplished” and walk away? Did they execute an orderly retreat from the battlefield, in order to prepare for the Police Action on Easter, to be followed by the Minor Skirmish on Labor Day?
This year, all we’ve got are some people insisting that, if a store operator says “Happy Holidays” instead of “Merry Christmas,” they will no longer patronize that establishment. Where’s the fire? Where’s the righteous fury? Where’s the barely-concealed anti-Semitism?
It just seems, I don’t know, lame – after the magnificence that was the “War on Christmas.”
Not that I don’t share a similar concern. Why if, at the beginning of May, store operators don’t wish me a “Happy Rickmas,” I just walk right out. Well, after paying for my purchases and smiling at the cashier, I mean – I’m not completely inflexible.
Anyway, it seems that the “War on Christmas” must not have been successful because here it is again. Perhaps Christmas, when threatened, is able to scurry away to some mountainous region of Afghanistan and lay low for awhile. But it always seems to resurface, despite the best efforts of those vicious “Happy Holidays” Visigoths and their minions, the TSA.
So Christmas is almost back, but the Armies of Evil haven’t risen up in opposition to it yet this year. It is a shame; I really enjoyed the community feeling last year as we all suffered through “Meatless, Sweetless and Matzohless” days in support of the cause. Not this year though.
It is so disappointing.
