There are no easy answers to this issue. However, it is a fact that children of illegal immigrants are here and most are not going to leave any time soon. If they have been educated in our school systems and are now ready for more advance studies and/or training, whom does it serve to deny this to them? Would the opponents rather see many of them end up unemployed? Wouldn't it better serve society to have them working at meaningful jobs from which they pay taxes and contribute to the greater good? The fact that they will be forced to pay out-of-state tuition will already reduce the number who will be able to attend. Must we be so hard hearted? Let's come up with workable solutions, not just hate-filled statements that brand them as "criminals."

It seems to me that many media outlets and government officials do not try to make a distinction between immigration and illegal immigration. Their is a vast difference. I am in favor and support immigration. My grandparents were immigrants and had to adapt to the USA laws and language and become citizens.
Illegal immigrants should not be in this great county. They should be deported when found. There should be a concentrated effort to find them. Illegal immigrants should not be offered benefits of any sort. That includes schooling and medical support. The use of the terms 'undocumented immigrants/workers/aliens' in another way of trying to say "illegal is not illegal" and trying to bury the truth.
There must be an effective and strong method of plugging the gaps that allow even more illegals to enter our country. If it takes military force, so be it.
The USA needs workers both seasonal and long term who are not immigrants. There should be an effective guest worker program. This program must not be offered to illegals but only to those who enter the USA from their country as part of the program.

Govenor you must be kidding. Why not illegal drivers on our roads and illegal underage drinkers getting as drunk as they want. Why not let any illegal activity be over looked? Why have immigration laws.

I am tired of paying for illegals in this country... SEND THEM HOME. Our schools are over crowded and can't make the grade in wake county as it is. Why must I ( a wake citizen) pay for, English as a second language teachers, Free food programs, extra seats in over croweded classes. New Schools because of over crowding....

ROUND THEM UP NAD SEND THEM HOME... I thought that is why Laws were passed and agencies put in place to support the LAW.. Not the Govenor's agenda

I think it is great for the candidates to be against illegal immigrants, but trying to keep them out of community colleges is crazy. These candidates should be encouraging more of them to get in school. Immigrants aren’t going to leave voluntarily. If the different levels of government continue cutting off services, educational or work opportunities for these illegal immigrants they really will turn into a crime problem. These immigrants will not have any other choice but to slide further into the shadows, making them an even bigger burden on government programs and our society. Let’s face the facts! With an estimated 11.6 million illegal immigrants in our country and more coming across our borders each year there is no way for the government to deport all of them. Congress must come up with an immigration reform that will secure our borders before our nation can focus on what to do the millions of illegal immigrants currently in our country! Immigration reform can only be achieved by small incremental steps which will take time to accomplish.

I like most people feel compassion for the illegal immigrants but the TRUTH of the matter is they are breaking the law by invading our country, they are bringing in diseases, TB, etc. they do not want to be citizens of the USA, only to receive benefits and further themselves, but instead want to make us "Little or Big Mexico" our ancestors that came here gave up their country and embraced the USA as their country with the desire to make it a better permanent life for themselves, but the illegal immigrants only want to take from us and still not contribute to our country, of course there are a few exceptions to the rule but most do not want to be "Americans" but Mexicans taking our money and our jobs, I know too many people that are out of work because they cannot compete with the illegals in bidding on jobs, because they have to pay taxes, carry insurance, be bonded, have all the govt. required certifications to work, so they are sitting now unemployed because of the special treatment that our govt. gives to illegals. My feelings are, of course I feel sorry for them, but they need to go back to their own countries and work to make their own countries better, and give the USA time to get our country back on the right track, we are losing our customs, our jobs, our families are being killed by illegal immigrants drinking and driving, we are having to build new schools, new prisons, at taxpayer expense because they are here. they are a huge financial burden on taxpayers, I just do not understand the govt. for allowing this to continue when it is destroying the America that we and our ancestors worked so hard to make what it use to be.

What part of ILLEGAL is hard to understand? The intent of those schools is to train people for jobs in our state. Illegal aliens have no right to be here, and for them to work here is ILLEGAL, so what business do they have in schools who's function is to teach them to work?

When you come right down to it what is the difference between this and the state offering courses in bootlegging, prostitution or the manufacturing of meth? In all these cases the state would be training people to successfully engage in illegal activity.

So now we need the state to use our tax money to teach criminals to be more successful criminals?!?

The issue is only about educating illegal immigrants. It is not about the benefits and detractors of illegal immigration.

Stripped down to it's bare essential, it seems straightforward that NC should not grant government benefits to illegal aliens.

Beyond this academic issue is the reality that government is not enforcing immigration laws. The notion of a law-abiding American nation is held by simpletons who can't grasp reality. Everyone else (take a look at your elected leaders) seems to have already given up their notions.

If you think there's something to accomplish via government - well then you're just being pathetic.
