We gathered our belongings, packed the minivan, piled the kids in and headed for Raleigh. We decided to take the scenic route, since we were in no hurry. We had plans to visit the Museum of Science with the kids. We had a nephew that was very anxious to see the huge dinosaur skeletons.
We were within a few blocks of our destination when suddenly we were redirected down a side street by a police officer. We didn't think much about it when we were detoured. Then, we noticed another officer in the intersection we were driving towards. We piddy puddled our way threw a few intersections.
It seemed that everybody, including their brother, wanted to visit Downtown Raleigh that Sunday afternoon. We saw our chance and turned left away from traffic and towards our destination. Smiles feeled the van and we begin to laugh with joy.
We found a dead end. Atleast for that day it was. An officer had parked his vehicle perpendicular to our lane and blocked traffic from leaving our street. Hundreds of runners came hustling around the corner and filled the empty road ahead of us.
We came to the conclusion that our Sunday stroll would need a back-up plan. Our venture to the science museum would need to be postponed.
We wondered how many other residents may have been surprised by the blockades around Downtown.
