| third grade, Holly Springs Elementary School Achievements: My name is Joseph Young. I am 8 years old and part of the White Tiger Chang family. My goal is to pass the black belt test. Everyone should go to White Tiger. Taking the class helped me prepare for my black belt and I am learning to be alert, focused, use better judgment, have more responsibility and communicate. Attitude is important. I am grateful that Master Chang and Master Rondy have made this opportunity available in Cary, N.C. Because of White Tiger teachings I am more alert and focused so I was helpful when needed and saved my brother’s life. As I was falling asleep… I heard my six-year-old brother Kody. At first I thought he was playing when I rolled over to see what he was doing. I heard him gurgling and saw him choking and having spasms. I realized it was serious. I yelled for my Dad to hurry because Kody was having a seizure. A bad one. Kody is autistic and has never had a seizure this bad before. My Dad rushed in, checked him out, picked him up and took him into the living room. As he did this, Kody passed out. We called 911 then, shortly after the sheriff was knocking at the door. Kody’s eyes opened a few minutes later after he had passed out. The fire department and ambulance came. The ambulance took Kody to Wake Med Hospital emergency in Raleigh. He was monitored and checked to see if the valporic acid dose was correct. Valporic acid is Kody’s daily medication that helps prevent seizures and helps him communicate. He started using words after taking valporic acid a few weeks. Kody had stopped talking using little sign language. He was diagnosed as being autistic. Kody is a research patient at Duke University Neurology. Quality of life is better for him now. With hopes, he will continue to progress. - Joseph Young Holly Springs Submitted by: Sandra Young |
