TThe Mariposa School will be hosting an Open House, on Thursday, April 3rd from 4:30 to 7:30. The school is location off Highway 64 near MacGregor Village at 203 Gregson Drive, Cary. Additional information is available at 919-461-0600.

April is Autism Awareness Month. As a part of the awareness of autism, The Mariposa School would like the community to be aware of the opportunities that it has offered to children with Autism over the last 7 years. The non-profit school, located in Cary, is recognized internationally as a leader in educating children with autism. The children range in age from 18 months to 14 years old. All of the instruction is intensive one-on-one instruction and based on the methods of verbal behavior under the umbrella of Applied Behavior Analysis - to date, the only method that is backed by scientific evidence. Although the intensive instruction is expensive, the long-term results and improvements in quality of life not only for the child with autism but also for the family are worth the expense. According to the Surgeon Gereral, "thirty years of research demonstrated the efficacy of applied behavioral methods in reducing inappropriate behavior and in increasing communication, learning, and appropriate social behavior" (Surgeon General's Report on ABA and Autism,1999).
