A New Jersey man says he’s alive today thanks to Jason Ray, the UNC Chapel Hill senior and Tar Heels mascot who died last month after he was struck by a vehicle.

Dennis Korzelius has Ray’s liver.

Ray, 21, suffered severe brain injuries when he was hit by an SUV while walking back to his hotel before an NCAA tournament game in New Jersey. He died March 26, leaving organs to five people.

“There is some comfort in knowing that even though your son is gone he’s got his organs supporting five other people’s lives,” Ray’s father, Emmitt Ray, told the Observer on Friday. “They could have all been gone by now. There is some good feeling about that.”

The information sessions for the new Challenger Division are being held in Raleigh, Cary, Durham and Benson. However, we are planning on having teams throughout the Triangle -- so if you're in Wake, Durham, Orange, Johnston or Lee county, please check it out!

I am sure your friend got some awesome shots from the terrain in NZ! Although Mark does downhill mt. bike competition events- they take a lift to the top of the mtn. and the ride down is only a few minutes. But when pleasure riding someone in the group always has a camera. I have some cool photos he has emailed to me. The Raleigh Bike club does have a website where they post biker's photos. I wasn't familiar with cyclocross until he began participating in events. I think it's history is very interesting.

Looks like a great poster for the event! Does Mark like photography enough that he might consider carrying along a relatively cheap point and shoot camera (due to camera hazards while biking) and shoot a few scenes along some of the state's mountain biking trails? These might be great for a website related to such things. The reason I ask is I have a friend in New Zealand who has done this and some of those trails she photographed are awesome. There is one just west of Christchurch, NZ that takes nearly 3 hours to get to the top (and with absolutely great views too), but it only takes about 10 minutes to ride back down to the bottom - talk about an good workout!

Three of the Friday Owls had memorable games or series in December.

Sharon Whitaker bowled a 177 game ,+58 pins over her average game.

Bobby Young rolled a 244 game, +56 pins over his average game and a clean game.

Marvin Pearce shot a great 684 series for +108 pins over his average series.

Senior Bowlers are Awesome!

The Friday Owls had some good bowling recently. In Nov. Gary Thompson bowled a 544 serieswhich was +115 pins over. Cecil Reid was wonderful in Dec. when he rolled a 193 game that was +76 pins over his average game. In addition, his 482 series was +131 over his average series.

The Grey Foxes had their share of awards in Oct. Art Boatwright had 244, a clean game. Also, Art's game was 96 pins over and earned him a 200 patch. Yvonne Burg's 563 series was 101 pins over. Her 193 game was a clean one in the same series of 563. She earned a 200 patch, as well. Jerry Collins bowled 245 which was 51 pins over. The same accomplishment was rolled by Martha Hymanin her 186 game. In addition, Martha had a 489 series, +111, and a 186 game, +60. Bowling a 178 game, Albert Kippax was 58 pins over and got him a 160 patch. Robert Kostka rolled a 170 for 50 pins over; he won a 160 patch. It was +55 for Lala Moon's game of 169; a 160 patch was hers. She shot a 416 for a 400 pin. But Tom Parker had 69 pins over with his 226 game which was in his 600 series and Tom earned a 200 patch. Bob Searcy had a strong day when he bowled a 215 series; he had a clean game and 66 over his average game. Frank Smith is back! He had 124 pins over with his 667 series and 77 pins over with a 258 game. Jack Sobezak bowled 210, +55 and 572, +107 as well as giving him a 200 patch. Ted Thurlow's 215 was 58 pins over; a 200 patch was his.. Bob Searcy moved on to a 215, +68, game. A 612 series was rolled by John Nalepa. A `80 patch went to Ralph Hales for his 182 game. Here's Barbara Pearce rolling 169 for 1 160 patch. Jerry Stevens bowled 202 to get a 200 patch. Ditto for Bill Williams with his 205 game. Here comes Mary Mahoney earning a 200 patch for a 212 game. Right behind her is Alice Munk with a 195 to earn a 180 patch.
